Things happened really fast, by Ancestral Legacy measures, back
in these days. Just a few weeks after the release of "Emptiness" I was left alone in the band, as Øyvind
left and Kjell-Ivar was forced to quit after a car accident. Help was found litteraly "the next door", as I got
two of the band members from the band rehearsing in the room next to us to play in Ancestral as well. Tor Arvid Larsen on
guitar and Børre Iversen on drums, as well as Elin whom I already played with in Miasma Paradox. So none of these actually
filled the spots the other two left (bass and keyboards). I immediately realized that filling Øyvind's spot was close
to impossible, so instead it would be better to change the style to something less keyboard based. In 2001 and/or 2002 I made
a couple of songs that didn't fit the band's style at the time, "Self-Enslavement" and "Forsaken", and
now I had the possibility to do something more with these, as I felt they were too good to be left unused. A very creative
Autumn of 2002 lead to a few more songs being written and in early 2003 we recorded them, 7 songs and an intro. The drums
sounded a bit bucketish since we didn't have much decent microphones to record them with, but we borrowed a recording room
that probably helped a bit on the outcome. About half of "Crash Of Silence" is reused material from an old Permafrost
song. I know that Elin isn't too happy with her parts on this demo, but I enjoy it a lot, since she sounds pretty fresh and
unflavoured by other female vocalists from metal bands, or a bit unique you could say. Just a little more than a year after
"Emptiness" we finished off "Of Magic Illusions". This was once again a long demo and we never sent it
to any labels. It was re-released a couple of years after on the Russian label Magik Art, with some additional songs from
"Emptiness", and of course there had to be a fuck up; the songs "Forsaken" and "The Silent Season"
were switched, so if the track list says that "Forsaken" is number 7 and "The Silent Season" is number
8, it is the opposite.
