The band was formed the last days of 1995 and in the first months of 1996 I created and recorded a few songs. The recording process was nothing but very simple and old school, using two cassette recorders connected to each other. I usually started by playing a track of main guitar, which usually went through the whole song, so that I had something to "navigate" after when adding the other instruments. When the first track was finished I put that cassette into the other cassette player, put a fresh cassette in the first and then played the first one while simultaneously playing another instrument upon this first track. So the "mixing" was done there and then, not possible to go back and change volumes, equalizing or anything. When I had done a few guitar tracks, bass, drums (played with the drum kit of an old Kawai keyboard) and synth if needed, the demo song was finished. Since we didn't write any lyrics in the early stages more or less all songs were instrumentals. Thus it was hard to give them any names, so they were numbered from 1 and up after when they were created. After the creative Winter and Spring in 96 there came a more calm period until the beginning of 97 where a bunch of new songs were made. A total of almost 20 songs were recorded. The songs available here are the ones which made it to later demos, and Glimmer even made it to our EP in an acoustic version, more than ten years after it was created. I'm still very proud of a song like "Where There's No Tomorrow", and feel we already back then were into something. No real demos were released from Permafrost, only a few cassette copies were made for our own and a few friends' "pleasure". So you've been warned of the quality of these songs, compare them with the later versions and see if you can recognize them!
